JockeySox™ are a medical grade graduated compression sock, designed to enhance performance and recovery for competitive riders.

JockeySox support the calf muscle and optimise muscle alignment and efficiency. This improves calf muscle stamina and delays muscle exhaustion. The calf muscle acts as a pump to encourage blood and lymph back up towards the heart; the actions of this muscle can be compromised when encased in a long leather fitted riding boot. This is where the correct use of compression science and technology can be advantageous to a competitive rider.

The graduated compression applied by the socks stimulates the muscles and soft tissue by exerting circumferential pressure around the leg. Similar to flight sock science - maximal compression is applied around the ankle (17mmHg pressure), sequentially decreasing towards the calf area (14mmHg).

Graduated compression socks are beneficial to reduce gravitational, heat and exercise associated swelling of the lower leg. The circumferential pressure aids venous return, increases muscle oxygenation and accelerates removal of metabolic waste such as lactic acid.

Using this type of compression sock offers the physiological equivalent of sitting down and putting your feet up!!

JockeySox™ can be safely used as Flight Socks or for reducing ankle or foot swelling following injury of the lower leg.

TESTIMONIALS
"I used the compression socks this weekend as I was doing a fair, so on my feet all day. I can't believe the difference they made, no tiredness, no swelling and no achy feet! Thank you :)"

"As a professional jump jockey - JockeySox are now an invaluable part of my kit. I initially wore them after injuring my ankle as they were so much more effective than TubiGrip and they fitted brilliantly under my boots. I am aware that when I use them I don't get the heavy leg sensation towards the end of a race - I call them my magic socks. Winning formula!
Thank you and well done for innovating a product with science to help riders perform."

Further information and science:

JockeySox offer Class 1 compression (14-17mmHg) to the lower leg - this is the only level of compression that has been clinically proven in elite sport that will help to reduce performance associated recovery times.
JockeySox are a medical grade equestrian sports performance compression sock - designed to incorporate the sport specific requirements of an elite rider. They support the calf muscle and optimise muscle alignment and efficiency.
This improves calf muscle stamina and delays muscle exhaustion. The calf muscle acts as a pump to encourage blood and lymph back up towards the heart; the actions of these muscles are compromised when encased in a long leather fitted riding boot.
This is where correct use of compression technology and science can be advantageous to a competitive rider.
Medical grade compression enhances physiological homeostasis and is a recognised mechanical ergogenic aid for repeat performance in elite sport. The graduated compression applied by the socks stimulates the muscles and soft tissue by exerting circumferential pressure around the leg. Similar to flight sock science - maximal compression is applied around the ankle (17mmHg pressure), sequentially decreasing towards the calf area (14mmHg).This accelerates the pumping action of blood from the ankle towards the heart; which enables the body to more expediently remove exercise induced metabolic waste such as blood lactate, encourages venous return and improves tissue oxygenation.
Using graduated compression on the lower leg offers a similar physiological effect to elevating the legs - so the socks are highly effective at reducing oedema.

JockeySox are ergonomically designed to perform. The released toe structure is the only design option attributable to a reduction in pressure for the toe area of the sock. Reducing the pressure within the toe area allows the user to freely move their toes, which is essential for correct movement, circulation and pre-performance warm up routines for the foot and lower leg.
This is equally essential when on land, enabling the biomechanics of the foot to work correctly and an even weight distribution achieved. If the toes are clamped within a tight sock – a neutral foot balance is rarely established – we need our toes to aid stabilisation and for mid-line propulsion / push off in the gait stride.
This necessary physiological and biomechanical requirement has been massively overlooked due to modern styling in sock manufacturing. When riding, it is crucial to have adaptability in the toe area so that extra foot control, stability, proprioceptive placement and balance can be quickly achieved. To have the extra dexterity in toe stretch and splaying, gives a wider base to the foot balance platform which helps the
rider to respond dynamically to control their weight distribution, balance and counteract deceleration when landing over a fence.
This is particularly useful when competing, if a horse pecks, turns sharply or lands steeply at speed when jumping. We often admire a horse’s ability “to find an extra leg” – now it’s the rider's toes turn to help keep them in the saddle! The open toe structure does create an end seam, but due to the required “heel down” position of a rider – the seam and the end of the toes aren't under pressure, therefore the seam is not perceived when riding.
There are currently no other manufacturing options for correct seam closure of released toe compression socks. The heel area has also been designed to be flexible, to give the garment the extra stretch required for a “heel down” riding position. The flexible heel panel reduces the garment tension and therefore the surface pressure to the base of the Achilles tendon and back of the heel bone.
JockeySox have been ergonomically designed for performance, re-performance and recovery benefits, but are also a close fitting sock that can offer continued consistency of fit under long riding boots. Lightweight for summer use they can also be worn under thicker socks such as ski tubes in the colder months, or when not competing.

Ideally JockeySox would be worn under breeches - but it is not detrimental to wear them over the top, as the compression quotient has been released from the calf area upwards. As JockeySox offer a Class 1 compression they are a useful rehabilitation tool for equine associated occupational injuries - such as speeding healing of bruises, haematomas, reducing soft tissue ankle swelling and helping to flatten scars. They can also be recycled by cutting the foot off to create a sleeve - which can then be pulled on over a hoof, to assist swelling reduction or for holding a dressing or poultice in place on a horse's knee
or hock.

Graduated compression sock science equates to elevation for the legs – so are beneficial to reduce gravitational, heat and exercise associated swelling, therefore they are suitable to be worn on a daily basis by anyone. Compression socks are particularly beneficial when spending long periods of time standing, sitting, travelling or driving and can reduce the "heavy, tired leg" sensation often felt at the end of a working day. Using this type of compression sock is the physiological equivalent of sitting down and putting your legs up!
JockeySox are made in Great Britain by a specialist surgical compression manufacturer – to the same stringent standards required for medical and surgical compression garments.
